"Corrective Rape"Within several parts of South Africa, gender roles are strictly enforced. After the Apartheid, the men in South Africa felt stripped of their masculinity, pride, and control. Their need to prove that their manhood was still intact and their hunger to regain power and dominance was through rape. Corrective rape is the idea that lesbian women can be "cured" of their homosexual thoughts and desires by men raping them. They justified these horrendous actions because they believed that homosexual women are choosing not to be with men, therefore abandoning their gender role; a defiance they decided was intolerable. Therefore, the men felt that it was their duty to remind them of their rightful place, a submissive wife.
