Adolescence is a period of time when an individual begins learning about their own sexuality and exploring their own identity. For the LGBT community, this period of time can also be faced with additional challenges, bullying, discrimination and harassment. Research has found significant gender differences within the LGBT community.
- Gay boys and lesbians are twice as likely to bullied by others compared to their straight peers.
- There is more societal tolerance for lesbians than gay men.
- Gay men are significantly more likely to be targets of violence .
- Straight men have the hardest time accepting others' homosexuality especially gay men.
- This is due to the idea that men have to represent themselves as masculine. And in most cases being heterosexuals relates to being masculine
- Heterosexual individuals thinks lesbian couples would be better parents than gay men couples.
Research has that sexual orientation is one factor associated with sexual frequency.
- When relationships are young, gay men tend to engage in more sexual activity with their partner than lesbians or heterosexuals do.
- Lesbian couples tend to engage in less sexual activity than any other relationships group.
